About Katie Morita

Katie Morita is an American artist and designer who infuses her taste, aesthetic, eye for color and shape, with her desire to create product and spaces that are long lasting, ethical and sustainable.

Katie’s designs are influenced by her deep appreciation for many cultures, her vast travels around the world, her taste for art and food, as well as her serene connection to nature.

In 2006, Katie opened her agency Mocha Projects, which was born from her desire to help brands realize opportunities for growth.

Katie has conceived many designs for the fashion and home industry; including product launches and store openings for international brands; Calvin Klein, Uniqlo, Gap, LeSportsac, and Stearns & Foster, to runway designs for Helmut Lang, Marissa Webb and Gabriela Hearst. In the past decade, Katie has become focused on the social and environmental impact of the design industry and her recent projects have partnered her with brands with purpose including; Athleta, the Catrinka Project, FEED Projects, and Bottletop.

Katie has renovated and reimagined interiors for two homes in Montclair, NJ.  She is working to bring ethical product and practices to the fashion and design industry.  Katie is currently partnering with a Portland-based software company on the launch of a locally produced fashion line and e-commerce venture.

Mocha Projects is a full-service fashion design agency

Mocha Projects was born from the desire to help brands realize opportunities for growth. Formed in 2006 in response to an evolving fashion industry, my company was founded on the simple premise that listening to the clients’ needs and working with the best talent is critical to a successful partnership. Nearly a decade later, Mocha Projects has grown into a full-service design agency with outstanding strengths in accessories design, conceptual and print design, and new brand launching.

We believe in long term partnerships

We love inspiring companies, products and designers, that’s why we hand pick the clients, manufacturers and designers we most admire and strive to form long lasting relationships with them. We love to work with forward thinking clients and designers to produce cutting edge and successful designs, and to initiate creative collaborations.

We oversee the design process from A-Z

We are a trusted resource for a range of fashion clients – from startups looking for design and production expertise to well-known brands exploring the launch of a new division. From sourcing new factories and materials, designing a couture handbag collection or offering sketching and technical design services, Mocha Projects has seen incredible success with companies such as Helmut Lang, Calvin Klein, and Tory Burch.

  • “As a handbag executive for Calvin Klein Global Design, I am exposed to the most amazing talent worldwide.  When I needed design support to launch a new division I had the good fortune to come across Mocha Projects.  Katie Morita and her amazing stable of designers were there for me every step of the way. When I needed research support, I had a research expert show up in the studio days later, when I needed sketches done, I had an illustrator step in immediately, when I needed entry level design support to do more basic tasks, Katie produced a young talent that did not break my budget. Katie is not only a savvy business woman but a tastemaker, a masterful partner and a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend Mocha Projects for all of the talent and broad expertise they bring to the table.”

    — Manon Frappier-Cox, Senior Vice President Design, Calvin Klein/PVH
  • “Katie possesses an incredible balance of creativity, trend foresight and business acumen. I completely trust Katie and her ability to guide her team in producing excellent design work (in both technical quality and taste level) as well as her ability to deliver to very tight timelines. Katie is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend Mocha Projects for a wide variety of creative, trend and design needs.”

    — Rhonda Summer, Strategic Creative Director, Men's & Women's Softgoods at Burton
  • “Katie is an incredibly talented, thorough and thoughtful designer, which is key when there are many tasks at hand and deadlines to be met. Katie is very diligent, and works incredibly well within a team structure and can wear many hats. She understands the ever-changing needs of the business and adapts. She is a joy to work with and a true asset to any organization.”

    — Stephanie von Watzdorf, Founder of Figue, former Vice President of Design, Tory Burch
  • “In addition to the time Katie worked at Gap Inc. as Accessories Director she also worked with me on accessories at Uniqlo Design Studio. She is one of the most creative, talented and detailed designers I have worked with. Her taste level as well as her own personal style plus a strong understanding of the accessories market make her an outstanding designer and director. She is also a lovely honest and easy person to work with. She has extensive technical skills as well and knows how to develop a collection overseas. She launched the Uniqlo accessories collection for the New York opening and it was highly successful. Her coordination of product with clothing and concept is a high priority. Her attention to all the details adds that extra touch that is so important. I highly recommend Katie in any project she pursues.”

    — Patti Barkin Camilli, Executive Consultant at LeSportsac, former Consultant for R&D, Uniqlo
  • “I worked with Katie to streamline the gift with purchase program at Victoria’s Secret bringing it under the Design umbrella and getting it onto our core development calendar. Katie was fantastic partners and a prolific and creative designer. She managed to get 6 months of product done in about 2 months’ time and her contributions were instrumental to helping us get the division up and running. Her positive attitude throughout a rather intense process made her a joy to work with and the project more fun than tedious. I would highly recommend Mocha Projects.”

    — Jennifer Dorre, Director of Operations, David Yurman, former Director of Operations, Victoria's Secret
